UNH Students: Title IX: Sexual Assault and Violence
Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 is a federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in education programs or activities operated by recipients of federal financial assistance (such as the University of New Hampshire (UNH)). Title IX applies to any form of gender-based different treatment, sexual harassment, sexual assault, unwanted sexual contact, sexual misconduct, domestic violence, relationship abuse, dating violence, and stalking. Title IX's prohibitions apply to all students, faculty, and staff.
It is important to have an experienced New Hampshire attorney to navigate this process. At UNH, each party (the complainant and the accused) are entitled to an advisor at the Office of Community Standards live hearing. The accused faces severe consequences including expulsion and a separate criminal prosecution through local police and the County Attorney's office. It is crucial to have an experienced criminal defense attorney advocating for you even if formal proceedings are not underway.
If you are a victim of domestic or sexual assault you are entitled to an advisor in this process. We have successfully represented many victims and witnesses and take great pride in guiding them through a complicated process. Every person's experiences and goals are different. Rock Law PLLC advocates exclusively for you and can be a gatekeeper against the bevy of people and agencies who want to speak with you.
Evidence and timing matters. Our licensed private investigator has over two decades of experience and can act immediately to gather critical evidence. Social media content, surveillance, personal interviews, and physical evidence are critical in any case. That information is important to acquire and preserve in defending against or filing a Title IX complaint.
